With the Apple Event now officially announced for the 9th of September, wheels are finally in motion ahead of the launch of the iPhone 16 Series. So, what can you expect from Apple’s upcoming flagship launch?
Enhanced Performance
With each new iPhone release, Apple continues to push the boundaries of performance. Assuming Apple stick to their usual approach, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus should inherit the A17 Pro chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro Series. As such we’d also expect to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to feature a new A18 chipset, offering even faster speeds and improved efficiency. This means smoother multitasking, better gaming experiences, and overall enhanced performance for users.
Design and Display Upgrades
Apple is known for its sleek and innovative designs, and the iPhone 16 series is likely to continue this trend. Expect to see improvements in display technology, with possibly higher refresh rates, brighter screens, and more vibrant colours. The overall design may also see subtle changes to enhance user experience and aesthetics.
In terms of screen size, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus wil remain the same as their iPhone 15 counterparts, however the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer slightly larger screens at 6.3” and 6.9”, respectively.
Advanced Camera Technology and Design
Apple has always been at the forefront of smartphone camera technology, and the iPhone 16 series is no exception. Expect to see improvements in low-light photography, enhanced zoom capabilities, and possibly even new AI-powered features to take your photography to the next level.
This year Apple are expected to bring a 5x optical zoom lens to the iPhone 16 Pro - this had previously been limited to just the iPhone 15 Pro Max, so this would be a come addition for the iPhone 16 Pro series, as a whole. For the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, Apple are planning a vertical camera arrangement to mark a change from the previous diagonal lens setup. It is believed this will help support the 16 and 16 Plus capture spatial video for the Vision Pro.
Action Button
With the introduction of the action button being well received on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, it is likely at this stage that Apple will extend the use of the action button to all models within the iPhone 16 series. The functionality of the button is likely to remain the same, but it being present on each model is certainly a welcome addition.
Capture Button
Alongside the Action Button, the iPhone 16 Series will feature an all-new Capture Button. This will be located on the right-hand side of the phone (underneath the power button), the Capture Button is believed to be a touch sensitive button which is expected to support swipe gestures for zooming function.
There are also some suggestions that the button may also be able to sense different levels of force application. Meaning that for instance a single press for instance could trigger a single photo, while a longer press could activate a video recording. The exact functionality of the upcoming Capture Button remains to be seen, however it certainly offers some exciting possibilities.
